ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT

Duty Station: Walvis Bay, Namibia
Reporting to: Financial Director
Employment: Permanent

The primary purpose of the position is to assist the Financial Manager with ensuring that the Company’s operational transactions are recorded and reconciled from journals through to ledger and flow accurately into financial statements, as well as ensure procedural compliance on various financial processes and payments terms.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Prepare monthly balance sheet GL recons
  • Assist with budgetary and control costs through the various internal administration and control processes
  • Provide adequate support in the completion of year-end journals and final trial balance.
  • Provide support on tax related issues and queries
  • Complete and submit monthly fuel rebate returns
  • Compile all final stock reconciliations
  • Compile all bank reconciliations on a daily basis
  • Checking daily invoicing / processing of sales invoices
  • Responsible for local and foreign debtors month end statements and all queries
  • Quarterly import and export insurance declarations
  • Ad-hoc & general administration / reporting

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 5 years’ experience in an accounting environment
  • VAT training will be a distinct advantage
  • Knowledge of the Namibian Income Tax and VAT Acts
  • Relevant experience in operating within the finance policy parameters, accounting requirements and system parameters.
  • Ability to operate across departmental lines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: Should be fluent in English and be able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders in a clear manner.
  • Strong administrative skills and procedural control
  • Computer literacy in Pastel, MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Namibian Citizenship
