Our History
Etosha Fishing Corporation, formerly known as the Walvis Bay Canning Company,
pioneered Namibia’s fishing industry in the 1940s with the country’s first fishmeal and canning plant. In 1995 the facilities were completely revitalised and today Etosha Fishing boasts one of the
best round can production facilities in the world.
Throughout its history the company has contributed to the dramatic increase in the utilisation of pilchards for human consumption. It is proudly associated with the
Lucky Star brand, the canned fish market leader in Southern Africa and well-known in many world markets, through a shareholding agreement with
Oceana Group Limited concluded in 2000.
Etosha Fishing more recently broke ground with its
Efuta Maasbanker product range, making available Namibia’s national fish, horse mackerel, in a can.
